12 Weeks and a Quilt Expo!

I am twelve weeks along as of today! Hopefully the first trimester weariness and nausea will really start to drop off. My next appointment and the first one where I'll actually be doing anything is a week from tomorrow.

Today Mickey and I went to the Portland Quilt Expo with my mom, grandma and my mom's friend, Martha. It was a ton of fun! We got there at 10:00 and didn't leave until almost 2:00! I only bought a few little things but, Mom and Martha got quite the haul. Granny won a door prize...from the very first drawing!!! Go, Granny! :D She won six pack of fat quarters from Momma Made It. Now, this is a great booth! Mom and Martha love it and were quite envious of Granny's score.

We had lunch there, then shopped some more and headed home. I made Mom drive because I was wiped out. Mickey just wasn't terribly happy and he had a few rough moments. But, a pretzel and some juice did go a long way towards helping. Once we got home, Mickey slept for about a half an hour. (He'd also slept on the way home.) I slept for 2 hours and 45 minutes! Not solid because I did have to get up and get Little Man out of his crib, and he did come check on me every 30 minutes or so. He runs in saying Ma-ma, ma-ma and won't leave until I say Mickey, Mickey. Then he says Bye, the ma-ma or Bye, the ni-ni and runs out again.

I finally got up to make us dinner. Fortunately, I had a bunch of last night's meal leftover so Mickey had that along with some carrots and raisins while I heated it up. (He hates waiting.) I wasn't feeling so hot so I made myself a nice bowl of oatmeal with butter, sugar, cinnamon and raisins.

Anyway, I had a pretty darn good day. I hope you did, too!

ps-does no one have any serious ribbon purging strategies? I'm desperate, people!!! :D

Tutorials to come!

Yep, I've got ideas for two, count 'em, two tutorials!!! Thanks in large part to the girls at the crop I went to last Saturday night! Especially this gal. Thanks, girls! I had a blast! :D

What? I didn't tell you that I got out of the house by myself for hours?!?!?! Ooooh, bad me! LOL! Well, Christina just turned 31 (finally caught up to me) and decided to have Kay, Marilyn, Laura and me come over to scrapbook at her place.

Now, it started at 7:00 pm so I knew this was going to take some effort on my part. So, I made sure to sleep in Saturday morning and I took an extra long nap on Saturday. It was rough but I knew sacrifices had to be made. ;) I didn't get home until 4:30 in the morning!!! I was really tired but, a couple of turkey dogs at 8:00 and then a 1:00am McD's run and some loafing on the couch really helped!

I had so much fun! Those gals are just a kick in the pants to be around and they totally don't care that I rarely get anything done at crops. Although, I did get the start of a layout! I even cut into paper! Oh, yeah! :D

OK, back to the tutorials, one is about using product for stamping and the other is my ode to wax paper! They will probably make an appearance this weekend or next week. I've got a ton of cleaning to do now that I'm done with those wedding photos! Andrew gave them to Ron last night so Karen should get them today. I really hope she likes them!

I'm also in the middle of a huge purge of my stash. If we don't move by the time the baby arrives, Mickey will be moving into my craft room, the baby will get his room and my scrap stuff will be homeless!!! I'm working on a plan to fit some scrap storage in a few rooms but, a lot has to go. Fortunately, Scrapbook Attack is having another of their garage sales the end of October, so it's perfect timing! I've already purged a stack of 12x12 paper that's over 8" tall!!! Now, I just have to hit my embellies, tools, stamps...oh, you get the picture!!!

Does anyone know how to purge ribbon??? I can't for the life of me part with any of it!!! Help!

Taking a break...

...from editing wedding pics to show some to you all!
The bride in her gown and veil.
The groom's sisters.
The kiss.
The groom's son.
The bride and groom's youngest daughter.

The bride and groom before the ceremony. She had two dresses. This one was for dinner which was brilliantly held before the ceremony! :D

The bride's sister and their youngest daughter. (She was much easier to get a shot of than her older sister!)

Getting ready to cut the cake. (Ron with a knife! Never a good combo! :D)
A sweet moment.

The handsome groom.
And his gorgeous bride!

Well, I think I'm almost done. Another day or two should have it. It's rather hard to work on during the day as Mickey always feels the need to "help"!

Tears of Joy/Tears of Sadness

Tears of Joy

So, I was a little worried today about hearing the heartbeat but, all my fretting was for nothing. We heard a heartbeat!!! :D Andrew couldn't come with because of work but my mom was there with little man. And, yup, I cried! Just a little but I did.

Tears of Sadness

Today is September 11th. I can never get through this day without crying. I can't watch the news on this day and I certainly can't watch all the special memorial programs that Andrew wants to watch. Even the happy stories and the tales of loved ones found make me lose control. And, I'm just your normal American, never been to New York, didn't know anyone living there, never had big city dreams. Yet, the destruction of the towers and all the lives lost just broke me. I have no idea how the people feel who had seen the towers in their glory or god forbid lost someone that day. I can't imagine how rough this day must be for them. Thinking about the people who are still hurting makes me cry now.

I hope and pray that every year that passes finds more people healing and getting stronger.

Just a couple of things...

First off, the reason for no photos, lately is because of my new computer. I haven't gotten PSE up on it yet. So, boring photo-less posts are in full force. Sorry, and I'll try to get some me time to get it on here.

Related to this is the lack of wedding photos of our friends. I will post some, I promise!!!

Finally, I've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow to hear the heartbeat. I'm a little nervous about it. I'm really hoping they find the heartbeat right away as I can't really deal with not hearing it tomorrow. Our insurance doesn't kick in until the first of October so we can't really justify paying for an ultrasound out of pocket. Andrew can't go with because of work so my mom is going to go with us.

Oh, and Mickey would like to say....

Just a funny...

I called Andrew at 5:45 and he answered sounding all apologetic saying that he had stopped by Preferred Pump (his previous, previous job) and was hanging out. Well, I was only going to ask him to pick up a take-n-bake pizza so when he said that I came right back with, "When your done swinging by Preferred, do you want to swing by Papa Murphy's?"

Heh!

He thought it was funny, too! So, now we are having pizza tonight!

He's coming home!!!

Whoo-hoo! My little brother is moving home from New York! Yes!!! :D

He's leaving next Monday and driving to Olympia with a kid whose going to go to college there. It's good because he won't have to ship all his stuff back. So, he should be home that Friday! Yeah, baby!

I really missed him and I was bummed to think he'd be gone when this new baby was born. So excited he'll be here for it! Yay!!!

Yep, you guessed it...

...I'm pregnant!!!

Whoo-hoo! I'm due April 10th and I'm really happy about the timing. Check it out...

Clue #3

CRAVINGS!!!

Goodbye and Hello, Baby!

By Joanna Campbell Slan

Talk about your seesawing emotions.

The end of last month, my husband David and I were down in Florida, dropping our only child off at college. It took all the strength and will in my body to give Michael that last hug and walk away. Florida is such a long, long way away from St. Louis. I wished I’d never let him turn in that application!

But then again. He and the college were a perfect fit. We could tell from halfway through our tour.

But I stood on that doorsill and I hesitated. He’s nineteen, but he’s still my baby. Finally, my husband took my hand and we moved into the hall. I prayed as I walked away from Michael’s dorm room, “Dear Lord, don’t let me burst into tears.”

I made it to the car. We drove three miles away and then I started crying in those big, gulping sobs you NEVER hear in the movies. No starlet would EVER make that kind of unhuman sound. You would have thought someone was ripping my guts out because, well, they were. My arms flashed back to my son as a little boy, when he’d have trouble sleeping and we’d spoon together. The smell of his hair—that lovely combination of baby shampoo and busy boy—came back to me. And I literally howled with pain. In fact, I was so upset that I worried someone would think David had car-jacked me and call the cops.

Right as we got to the city limits, my cell phone rang.

“We have a baby,” said my sister Meg. She was calling from the delivery room of the hospital.

My niece Lexie had given birth to Skyler Logan Campbell right about the time we’d walked out of Michael’s dorm room. David and I drove up the highway and were there in time to hold our family’s newest addition when he was less then three hours old.

I didn’t tell Lexie how fast the years would go. She wouldn’t believe me. I didn’t believe it when people told me. And yeah, let’s be candid, there are a couple of stages where you think your kid will NEVER change, NEVER grow up. Like the mom I talked to today at my first book signing. She told me that her son was resisting all efforts to be potty trained. I still remember what the pediatrician told me: “No one ever goes to college wearing pull-ups.”

But I knew she wouldn’t believe that. So instead I just smiled to myself.

Life’s like that. There’s so much you have to discover by yourself.

And isn’t that just GRAND?

More on Joanna Campbell Slan!

Here's a little bit of background info about Joanna from her Press Kit. (How cool is it that I got sent a press kit?!??!?!) :D

Joanna Campbell Slan is the author of several nonfiction books, seven of which are specifically on scrapbooking. As soon as her son got his driver’s license, Slan broke free from the carpool lane and pursued her lifelong dream of writing a novel. Naturally, she wrote about what she knows best, scrapbooking and motherhood with a slight off center twist. The result was Paper, Scissors, Death: A Kiki Lowensein Scrap-N-Craft Mystery.

Slan grew up in tiny Vincennes (IN). She attended Ball State University where she worked fulltime at a pet shop, edited the student magazine, freelanced for the campus newspaper, and wrote a column for the Muncie (IN) Star to fund her education. She graduated cum laude with a degree in journalism and a minor in psychology.

Exploring all aspects of the communications field, Slan took a variety of jobs including positions in newspaper, radio, and public relations. She won a Silver Anvil, Public Relations Society of America’s highest honor, for her work on FarmAid, taught public relations at Illinois State University, hosted a television talk show, wrote speeches for corporate executives, and traveled the globe as a motivational speaker. Sharing Ideas Magazine has named her on of the country’s top 25 professional Speakers. Additionally, Slan is one of the early Chicken Soup for the Soul authors.

In 2004, Slan founded a contest for scrapbookers in the U.K. called “the Best of British Scrapbooking,” which still runs today. In 2007, she co-founded Sisters in Crime’s Forensic university of St. Louis.

Joanna Campbell Slan, her husband David, and her son Michael live in a suburb of S. Louis with their two dogs. Visit her online at

She sounds pretty cool, don't you think? I do have to say that I can tell that she is a really nice person from all her email correspondence. Very sweet!

Oh, and here is clue number two!!!
